Canadian women win three straight games on Day 1 at Kitakyushu Sevens
KITAKYUSHU, Japan — The Canadian women’s rugby sevens team posted three victories Saturday to advance to the Kitakyushu Sevens Cup quarter-finals.
Canada opened Pool C play at Mikuni World Stadium Kitakyushu with a 29-12 win over England. That was followed by a 43-5 rout of Spain and a 29-12 victory over the United States.
“Over the year we are looking to put in six good games and to build on Day 1 like that is a big positive going into the quarter-finals,” said Canadian captain Ghislaine Landry. “We have such dynamic athletes right now and to be able to switch up lineups like that, people can’t prepare for that kind of thing so it’s definitely an asset.”
Canada will play Russia in the Cup quarter-finals.
