A police chase ends in spike belts, K-9s and the arrest of suspected thieves yesterday.

In the early hours of Wednesday morning, Prince Albert police spotted a vehicle identified as stolen. Officers attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver sped off in a hurry over Second Avenue West towards the Diefenbaker Bridge. Officers set up two spike belts before and after the bridge which managed to puncture the vehicle’s tires.

This didn’t stop the driver, however, who continued to drive west onto the landfill road, then 15th Street Northwest. The driver finally lost control past the Buckland Fire Hall and drove into the brush. The driver and a passenger fled on foot.

The pair was found by a Saskatchewan conservation K-9 and subsequently arrested by police. Their vehicle was searched and suspected stolen electronics, a sawed-off 12-gauge shotgun, a 12-gauge shotgun, a .357 Magnum revolver, a knife, a set of handcuffs, and a case of .22 bullets were found inside.
