Reincarnated in 2017 and coming back for a ‘second’ year in a row, the Meadow Lake Winter Festival is coming up this weekend and organizers say the community is highly anticipating the event.

Committee member Kurt Hadland said the event will feature snowmobile drag races, an ice fishing derby, sleigh rides, snow art and quad races among others.

On Friday, the chucksleds and talent show events will take place at the Meadow Lake arena, and the rest will be on the lake east of the city off Highway 55 on grid road 3162. Hadland said preparations are going well.

“It’s all coming together,” he said. “There’s lots of entries, lots of talk. I think people are going to be really excited because it’s been 20 years for some of the people coming.”

Hadland said it will be an interesting mix of nostalgia and new ideas and events. The food shack will double as a fundraiser for the Carpenter High School grad committee, which will help pay for the festivities for this year’s graduating class.

“It was big back in the day, and people are pretty excited it’s coming back,” he said. “There will be a mix of things for everyone to see and take part in.”

The event runs from Friday, Feb. 2 to Sunday, Feb. 4, and buttons for the event are $10 for the whole weekend.
